On any given day designer Rio Wrenn can be found mixing up dyes with berries grown in her garden, creating rust and copper objects, or printing silk fabrics for her sustainable lingerie line, R.A.W. Textiles.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Wrenn produces eye-catching undergarments printed with unusual objects (read: rust). Named Psyche, after the Greek word for butterfly, the 2012 collection channels the “delicate and metamorphic elegance of the butterfly” with ethereal, rust-printed silk lingerie. Take a look:

As I reported back in 2010, when I first discovered this unusual lingerie, Wrenn hand dyes fabrics, including silk chiffon, stretch chiffon and organic bamboo, with rust and copper objects to create patterns and colors, from apricot and lilac to copper and cream. Wrenn also uses Shibori, a Japanese dyeing technique, to add dimension to fabrics.

Stand-out pieces from the collection include silk chiffon robes with appealing rust-printed fabrics; the Ana Negligee with vintage lace; and the Nymph Gown, which makes an easy transition from daywear to bedroom wear.

When it comes to taking the trusty lingerie home, it isn’t so easy to find. If you’re in Los Angeles, California, it can be picked up at Coco de Mer. Those based in the UK, can visit Glamorous Amorous. The rest of us contact R.A.W. Textiles directly, here.
